Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing technique used to enhance the appearance of eyebrows. It involves the use of a manual handheld tool with fine needles to deposit pigments into the upper layers of the skin, creating hair-like strokes that mimic natural eyebrow hair. The purpose of microblading is to fill in sparse or thin eyebrows and define their shape. The pigments used in microblading are typically semi-permanent and fade over time, usually lasting between 1 to 3 years, depending on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.
A permanent makeup artist may describe powder brows as a technique that involves depositing pigment into the skin using a tattoo machine to achieve a soft and powdery finish. This method is particularly popular for enhancing the appearance of eyebrows. Powder brows offer a long-lasting solution for achieving beautifully shaped eyebrows without the need for daily makeup application. The longevity of this technique varies based on factors such as skin type and aftercare, providing clients with a semi-permanent solution that can last for 1-3 years.
A combination eyebrow tattoo combines the techniques of microblading and powder brows to create a natural-looking result with more defined edges. This technique is ideal for those with sparse eyebrows who want a more filled-in and defined look. Combination eyebrow tattoos can last for 1-3 years, depending on skin type and aftercare.

Permanent makeup, also known as micropigmentation or cosmetic tattooing, is a cosmetic technique that involves applying pigments into the skin's dermal layer to enhance facial features. No, PMU is not actually permanent. Most of the services will last at least 2 years before they start fading. For this reason, it is recommended that you get a touch up every 1-2 years to keep the makeup look fresh.
No, PMU is not the same as tattooing. Even though they both on the surface do the same thing the technique, tools, and pigment used are very different. For instance, in tattooing the needle will penetrate all the way into the deeper dermis, this is done so the ink will last forever. In PMU, the dermis is rarely pierced and the pigment stays in the epidermis. This is the reason why tattoo’s will last a lifetime while PMU will only last a few years before starting to fade. It fades because the epidermis keeps growing and eventually sheds the pigment.
Each PMU procedure have different completion time but on average they take 1-3 hours. Annual touch-up's will take less time while a new application done as first visit can take 2-3 hours.
Each service is slightly different, but in general you will see redness and sometimes swelling in the areas that the service was performed on. The redness and swelling should be gone within a day. Everyone’s brows heal differently. Because of this, some people may heal patchy or may not hold color as well as others. In addition, your artist works conservatively on the first session to see how your pigment holds in your brows and to see how the color heals on your brows, as some may heal ashy colored or too warm.
